Coatesville Primary School is located on Mackie Road, East Bentleigh, a residential suburb in the city of Glen Eira, south-east of Melbourne. We are an authorised International Baccalaureate- Primary Years Program (IB-PYP) World School. We belong to a global, educational community that strives to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Coatesville Primary School is part of the South East Victoria Region (SEVR) and, in particular, the Inner Sub Region of schools. We strongly support State Education and work collaboratively with our local government schools to improve the academic progress and social/emotional wellbeing of all students within our network. Strong parental involvement and community connectedness have been the hallmarks of Coatesville Primary School since it opened its doors in 1953.
Coatesville's student population has grown rapidly. Our 2013 student population is 680, with a Prep enrolment of 130 students. Due to our strong rate of growth a "Neighbourhood Boundary" is now in place. We attract high quality staff who are committed to academic excellence and the principles of the IB-PYP, as well as the school's Values of Respect, Responsibility, Achievement, Harmony and Cooperation. Our grounds and facilities are outstanding. New Junior and Senior Learning Centres provide 21st century learning environments that inspire students to be the best they can be. There is a commitment to small class sizes from Prep-Grade 6, as well as to the provision of specialist teachers e.g. Art, Music, Physical Education, Languages Other Than English (LOTE) - French and Environmental Science. A range of programs is provided to support students who are working either below or well above their expected Grade, both within their classroom setting and on a limited withdrawal basis. Every opportunity is taken to utilise and maximise government funds to enable teachers to work intensively with students. Our beautiful grounds attract outside organisations who use our school premises for a range of purposes, including Auskick, Mackie Cricket Club, soccer clubs, ArtSmart, Active After School Care and Language classes. The school facilities are available for hire, upon application.
School tours are conducted from March to June. The Principal, Louise Pearce and Assistant Principal, Michael Jones, take parents proudly through our vibrant learning environment. We encourage parents to attend advertised, information sessions which focus on school readiness for their child. All tour bookings can be made through the school office from 8.30am-4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Our school provides out of school hours care (OSHC) and holiday care. Camp Australia is the service provider. Also, we are proud of our 5 star rating Canteen, "The Ville", where healthy options are available for purchase every day of the week.
Our School Council works tirelessly to continue to maintain a stimulating learning environment, both internally and externally. A Master Plan has been developed and School Council is seeking government funding to make this extraordinary design a reality! School Council employs a Grounds Manager, 2 Canteen Managers and a School Nurse. In 2013 we have appointed a gardener to care for our Sustainable Living Centre.
Student Leadership is fostered all Grade levels. Self-confidence, collaboration, empathy and a preparedness to take-a-risk are skills we model and try to develop in all students, in partnership with parents. We want all who belong to our wonderful community to "Aspire Higher".
